Scrimshaw with the English coat of arms made in the 19th century
Bifacial engraved sperm whale tooth with:
- The upper side engraved with a putto (blowing a foghorn) riding a unicorn with on the right a
horse and on the left a mermaid emerging from the water and a floating bird.
- On the back, the English coat of arms: a central medallion with the coat of arms and the motto
"HONI SOIT QVI MAL Y PENSE" surmounted by a royal crown. The medallion surrounded by a
crowned lion and a unicorn resting on a ribbon.
Dimension: length of 16.5 cm.
