Reverse tapered telescope made in England circa 1680 / 1690
Reverse tapered telescope. The main tube covered with white parchment with a colored pattern (orange, green and gold). Seven drawtubes made of white parchment. Unsigned but similar to n° 36 of the Louwman museum The Hague which refers to another telescope quite closed (mentioned by Turner 1966) and to another one signed « Will Longland at the ship in Cornhill London » in the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich (NAV1587).
Optical in good condition with replacement of lens in XIXth in century.
NB. : Reverse tapered telescope are rare. They were mostly produced in England in the last quarter of the seventeenth century by a number of makers such as William Longland, John Yarwell, John Marshall, and few others.
