Nota : It is of interest to note that this is one of the very first objects of the kind and that the maker thought better to indicate its function by engraving on it : “This instrument is called a level “ (Cest instrument est apelle Niveau).

Literature : inventor of the surveying instrument known as graphometer, Philippe Danfrie was designer and maker of mathematical instruments in metal and paper.
